To keep things in perspective, Mark Sherry likes to immerse himself in kids’ sports.

The 45-year-old vice president and general manager for Mortenson Construction’s Wisconsin operations, has coached both of his sons — one is a freshman at Kettle Moraine High School in Wales and the other will be a seventh grader at University Lake School in Hartland — in hockey and baseball for the last 10-plus years. The activity provides a nice balance between work and play, said the 22-year veteran of Mortenson.

This month we had questions to ask, and Sherry answered them.

What word do you wish you’d invented? I wish I would have invented the word ‘seriously.’ With different inflections, it can be used in many different ways.

What is your definition of happiness? In my mind, happiness is created by how you live your life. Happiness is not the end game; instead, happiness is created in the journey.

What is your greatest fear? The pace of life moves so quick. My fear is looking back on my life and reflecting on the events, activities and milestones that were missed.

What trait do you most like in others?
Genuineness

What is your most treasured possession? My family

Who are your heroes? My biggest hero is my wife. I mean, really, she has been married to me for the past 20 years and hasn’t yet gone insane. My parents and children are my heroes. I also have tremendous appreciation for those who have given their life for the sake of others.

What is your greatest extravagance?
My iPod. The amount of enjoyment and entertainment had at various functions with the iPod as the center of attention has left me with many great memories I will never forget.
