The U.S, Department of Agriculture handed out $1.16 billion in loans for electrical transmission projects, including $4 million for the Jump River Electrical Cooperative Inc.
The program lends money to electrical utilities to improve power lines in rural areas. The $1.16 billion from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will pay to build and repair 11,249 miles of distribution and transmission lines.
The Jump River co-op, one of 46 electrical utilities and cooperatives to receive a loan this week, has offices in Ladysmith and Hayward.
