Madison (AP) — Democratic state Sen. Spencer Coggs of Milwaukee says he is looking into running for lieutenant governor.
Another Milwaukee Democrat, state Sen. Lena Taylor, has also said she is considering running.
Many politicians are considering runs for governor or lieutenant governor next year given Gov. Jim Doyle’s announcement on Monday that he will not seek a third term. Current Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton is expected to run for governor.
Coggs served in the state Assembly for 20 years before being elected to the Senate in 2003.
Coggs says he is forming an exploratory committee and plans to announce his decision in coming weeks.
On the Republican side, Superior Mayor Dave Ross has said he is running for lieutenant governor.
