EPA to hold hearing on greenhouse gas emissions (1:21 p.m. 11/18/09)

CHICAGO – The Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing on the proposed greenhouse gas emissions thresholds as they apply to new or existing industrial facilities.

The program would cover almost 70 percent of nation’s total GHG emissions from stationary sources. The nation’s largest facilities – including power plants, refineries and cement production facilities – that emit at least 25,000 tons of GHGs a year would be required to obtain operating and construction permits.

The hearing will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 North River Road, Rosemont, Ill.

The EPA will accept written comments on the proposed rule until Monday, Dec. 28.

For information on the proposed rule and instructions for submitting written comments, visit www.epa.gov/nsr/actions.html.
