OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Oshkosh Corporation is announcing that the U.S. Army has affirmed a $3 billion contract to build 23,000 military trucks and trailers.

Oshkosh Corp. secured the contract last fall by under-bidding two other companies, BAE Systems and Navistar Inc. Those two companies questioned whether Oshkosh could meet the price it quoted, and in December the U.S. Government Accountability Office told the Army to review the decision.

In a statement released by the company, Oshkosh chairman and CEO Robert G. Bohn says the Army’s affirmation proves the company represents the best overall value for the military and taxpayers.

Production of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles is scheduled to start in 2011 and employ about 2,000 people.
