EAU CLARIE, Wis. (AP) — Eau Claire city officials say one of the islands in the Chippewa River has come loose and slid up against the North Crossing bridge.
WQOW-TV reports that officials say the island is resting against the area of the primary water main, which runs along the bridge. That water main feeds the west side of Eau Claire.
City crews were monitoring that line on Thursday. If it breaks, or something else serious happens, officials will be able to shut it down.
Public works officials tell the station can also service the west side other ways, and backup lines are available, if needed.
