Worker alert after being impaled on metal rod

MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) — Manitowoc rescue officials say an industrial accident left a man impaled on a metal rod.
The man was taken to a hospital. His name and condition haven’t been released.
Authorities were called to Parker Hannifin Corp. on Friday morning. They found the man impaled on a metal rod that pierced his torso, entering the body from one side and exiting from the other.
According to the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, the rod was about 10 feet long and a little more than half an inch in diameter.
Deputy fire chief Todd Blaser said the man was alert and conscious as the paramedic crew treated him. According to the company, the man is a machine operator who was injured during a routine procedure.
The accident is under investigation.
