MILWAUKEE (AP) — A downtown Milwaukee parking garage is set to reopen a year after an exterior concrete panel fell and killed a 15-year-old boy.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the O’Donnell Park garage is slated to reopen in time for Wednesday’s start of Summerfest, an annual music festival.
Jared Kellner of Greenfield was on his way to Summerfest on June 24, 2010, when one of the 13-ton panels fell and killed him. Two others were injured.
An expected reopening date of Tuesday for the parking ramp was listed in a news release by several county supervisors. But county Public Works Director Jack Takerian said that will depend on getting the go-ahead from city inspectors and completing several tasks remaining in the $5.4 million renovation of the O’Donnell Park ramp.
