A third-party contractor hit a gas line Monday at 333 E. Wisconsin Ave., according to We Energies spokeswoman Cathy Schulze.

We Energies received a call about the gas line at 3:10 p.m., said We Energies spokesman Brian Manthey. The gas was turned off at 3:45, he said.

A nearby building was evacuated as precaution, Manthey said.
