MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Local unemployment rates rose in all of Wisconsin’s major cities and in most counties last month.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported the preliminary findings on Wednesday.

The report shows that unemployment increased in the state’s 32 largest cities. Rates ranged from a low of 4.2 percent in Caledonia to a high of 12.7 percent in Racine.

Of the state’s 72 counties, unemployment went up in all but seven of them. The lowest rate was in Dane County at 5.4 percent and the highest was 19.3 percent in Menominee County.

Statewide unemployment in June was 7 percent. That compares with 8.2 percent nationwide.
