Highway 59 project starts this week ahead of Zoo Interchange project
A water main project on Highway 59 in advance of the Zoo Interchange reconstruction will begin this week and is expected to affect traffic through the middle of November, according to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation news release.
Northern shoulders and sidewalks along Highway 59 between 97th and 101st streets in West Allis will be closed sporadically as crews move along the highway, and the sidewalk running from the corner of Madison Place and 100th Street to Highway 59 will be closed.
The eastbound Interstate 894/U.S. 45 offramp and the westbound I-894/U.S. 45 on ramp at Greenfield Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sept. 18. Ramp closures will occur at the I-894/U.S. 45 and Highway 59 interchange throughout construction.
A related resurfacing project at the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 100 will cause some nighttime lane closures starting Sept. 17.
These projects will accommodate future work to replace Greenfield Avenue bridges and ramps over I-894/U.S. 45 as part of the Zoo Interchange project.
