SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — Former state Sen. Randy Hopper has resigned as head of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp.

The 46-year-old Republican had led the organization since June, after being recalled from office the previous summer. His resignation came Tuesday, the same day he was cited in Fond du Lac County for first-offense drunken driving.

Board President Gary Dulmes says the group is beginning its search for a permanent replacement. The organization works to recruit new businesses to Sheboygan County and retain existing ones.

Hopper was previously arrested for drunken driving in 2011. A jury acquitted him five months later.

A Sheboygan Press report says Hopper’s wife filed to get a temporary restraining order against him last week.

Online court records didn’t list an attorney for Hopper.
