Eagle (AP) — The Nature Conservancy is ready to open 374 acres of land in southeast Wisconsin for outdoor activities like hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and bird-watching.
The nature sanctuary near the Mukwonago River near Eagle officially opens Saturday — some 17 months after the late Newell and Ann Meyer donated the property to the Nature Conservancy, a leading conservation organization.
The preserve has $12.5 million in land and other assets, making it the most valuable conservation donation in Wisconsin history.
The official ceremony opening the preserve, which was once a summer retreat for the Meyers, begins at 1 p.m. Saturday. It will be open to the public year-round.
