Milwaukee County is considering extending until 2026 a $3 fee on airplane tickets at General Mitchell International Airport to pay for $28.2 million in projects.
General Mitchell has used the $3 Passenger Facility Charge to pay for construction projects since 1995. The fee is set to expire in 2010, but the Milwaukee County Board’s Committee on Transportation Public Works and Transit on Wednesday will consider extending it another 16 years.
The fees would raise money to pay for 14 projects. Almost $20 million would pay to borrow money to extend runways to improve safety, $2.9 million is for sound insulation installation in houses around the airport and $1.95 million would buy snow-removal equipment.
