Unrest among Brown County neighbors of what would be Wisconsin’s largest wind farm is reason enough for the state to consider alternative projects, said a lawmaker from the area.
State Rep. Ted Zigmunt, D-Francis Creek, said the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin should consider energy projects such as geothermal and solar hot water for individual [...]

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is sticking to a firm Sept. 1 deadline to propose wind turbine placement rules despite calls from local governments to wait.
“We had a very clear mandate to get work done quickly,” PSC Chairman Eric Callisto said Tuesday.
“Expediency is important in order to have uniformity and ground rules [...]

Deadline pressure and 100 amendments are cracking the unity of the state‘s Wind Siting Council as it strives to agree on turbine placement standards.
Even the definition of agreement is a point of contention among the 15 members. The state law that formed the council requires only that the panel make recommendations that will [...]

A school district in Rothschild is giving more than 2,600 reasons for demanding the state pinpoint exactly how much pollution a proposed biomass plant in the area will produce.
“Our concern is to be careful about the safety of students and staff,” said Tom Owens, assistant superintendent of the D.C. Everest Area School District.

One Door County landowner’s level of satisfaction stands between success and rejection of a $24.7 million transmission line project.
The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin on Thursday approved Pewaukee-based American Transmission Co. LLC’s proposed 138-kilovolt, 8-mile transmission line, which will be built next to an existing transmission line in Door County.

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin on Tuesday granted Alliant Energy initial approval for an estimated $150 million upgrade at its Edgewater power plant in Sheboygan.
Alliant still needs a written order from the PSC to proceed with the project, which will add pollution controls to reduce emissions from the coal-fired plant. Alliant needs to make [...]

The label of renewable energy will cost Xcel Energy an extra $21.4 million after the utility realized its proposed biomass plant in Ashland will burn too much natural gas.

Members of the state’s Wind Siting Council are deflecting allegations the group is biased toward development.
“I think it’s a fairly well-balanced group,” said council member Dwight Sattler, a Fond du Lac County resident and neighbor of the Blue Sky Green Field Wind Farm. “If anything, vocally, it seems slanted against development right now.”
But [...]

Wind farm developers are bristling over the possibility they would have to notify local governments when investigating sites for a project.
“Developers want to avoid two things working against a project right from the start,” said Jim Naleid, a managing partner for Holmen-based AgWind Energy Partners LLC. “They do not want to get people [...]
