Two Milwaukee aldermen celebrated National Train Day on Saturday by refuting reports from Madison that their city’s streetcar project is dead.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will seek $2.5 million for the final design of a Milwaukee train maintenance building rather than using an Illinois station for the service.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation knowingly proceeded with a design for a Milwaukee Intermodal Station accessibility project that violated a federal accessibility law.
The state’s plans to seek bids in February for the Milwaukee Intermodal Station passenger concourse reconstruction have been called off indefinitely.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss reconstruction of the 50,000-square-foot passenger concourse at Milwaukee’s Intermodal Station.
