Work begins on convention hotel

May 10, 1999Madison — Construction began last week on what will beMadison’s tallest hotel and the only lodging facility designed specifically to serve the Monona Terrace Convention Center.

The 14-story Hilton Madison at 9 E. Wilson St. will betaller than the city’s 12-story Concourse Hotel. It will be connected to the two-year-old convention center by an enclosed skywalk.

Milwaukee-based Marcus Hotels and Resorts is developing the 236-room hotel. The company’s proposal to develop the Hilton Madison was selected by the City of Madison amongst competing bids last May.
