Milwaukee’s
first backlit informational sign in the Gateway Signage Program, across
the street from the Clarion Hotel on South Howell Avenue, is unveiled Thursday.
The city, along with program partner Spirit of Milwaukee, announced the
program in May when four sponsors—the Milwaukee Brewers, We Energies,
Funjet Vacations/Mark Travel and Marcus Hotels/Marcus Theatres — each
agreed to purchase a $50,000 to $65,000 sign. The signs features Milwaukee’s
iconic Calatrava Brise Soleil at the Milwaukee Art Museum along with the
name of a local sponsoring corporation or organization headquartered in
Milwaukee. The city receives a percentage from all Gateway signage sales,
and proceeds will provide funding for beautification of Milwaukee boulevards.
