The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District is looking for 14 contractors that want to join its Business Development Training Program.
The program, which is in its fifth year, offers classes in project management, accounting, leadership skills and networking to small, women-owned and minority-owned contractors. Of the roughly 50 contractors that attended past classes, about half have landed work as subcontractors or generals on MMSD projects, said Pete Coffaro, MMSD procurement and business development manager.
In past years, the program has received more applicants than it can accept, Coffaro said. Contractors will be ranked, for example, according to their ability to work on MMSD projects as engineers or heavy construction contractors, he said. Applications (PDF) are due May 15.
The MMSD this year is spending $250,000 to run the classes. The course is free to contractors.
