Workers plan protest at Target Center in Minneapolis (10:24 a.m. 5/28/09)

Hundreds of organized laborers plan to join Roofers and Waterproofers Local 96 at a rally at 11 a.m. Thursday in front of Target Center, 600 First Ave. N., Minneapolis, to call for an end to what they call unsafe and exploitive working conditions on publicly paid-for projects.

Local 96 recently filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against Stock Roofing Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Tecta America Corp., over unsafe working conditions and unfair labor practices on a green roofing project at the Target Center.

In April, workers on the site of the $5.3 million project allegedly complained about working at night with insufficient lighting and safety harnessing. The workers also claim violation of prevailing wage rules for public works projects.
