ATC activates portion of power line (12:45 p.m. 6/5/09)

De Pere (AP) — A transmission company has activated a portion of a new 345-kilovolt power line in northeastern Wisconsin.

American Transmission Co. has been building the $263 million, 104-mile line between substations near New London and Wausau since 2006. The company activated 75 miles of it last Saturday and hopes to have the remaining portion online by the end of the year.

The line is designed to support a new generator at the Weston Power Plant and relieve congestion on lines around Green Bay and the Fox Cities.
