Lake Express LLC is trying to spur a discussion to answer questions about how contractors can build wind turbines in the Great Lakes.

The plan to build wind turbines in the Great Lakes, which was outlined in the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin study released last year, raises questions that state contractors should discuss with maritime companies sooner, said Ken Szallai, president of Lake Express LLC, Milwaukee. Concerns include ferrying workers to and from a job site in the middle of Lake Michigan every day and securing a marine construction site against trespassers, he said.

Szallai and other speakers will discuss the challenges of building wind turbines in the Great Lakes during the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative second annual meeting June 10 and 11 in Milwaukee.
