Prevailing wage surveys due Friday (2:09 p.m. 7/27/09)

Contractors have until Friday to submit their prevailing wage surveys to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

By Friday, DWD had received nearly 4,000 responses to the 2009 survey. The state uses wage information from contractors to set prevailing wages for each county. Contractors working on public works projects must pay the county’s prevailing wage.

Labor and employer groups, as they have in past years, are still goading members to respond to the surveys, which DWD mails out annually. Despite all of the debate about prevailing wage requirements expanding to more projects, the response rate seems to be about on par with past years, said Robb Kahl, executive director of the Construction Business Group. The group is financed by contractors and workers covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139 collective-bargaining agreements.
