The Wisconsin Department of Transportation this month will hold public hearings for a plan to increase disadvantaged business-enterprise contracting goals in 2010.
The state this year has a goal that 11.1 percent of its highway contracting money goes to certified DBE firms. The goal would increase to 12.63 percent in 2010 under the plan.
WisDOT will collect public comments on the proposal until mid-September.
A DBE contractor must be a small business or a company at least 51 percent owned by minorities or women.
Each public hearing will start at 5 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday’s hearing will be in Waukesha, Thursday’s hearing is in Wisconsin Rapids, an Aug. 11 hearing is scheduled in Green Bay, and the final hearing, on Aug. 13, is in Madison.
