Dorner Inc. and We Energies are blaming each other in the lawsuit over houses in Oconomowoc that were destroyed by an explosion triggered by a broken natural gas pipe.

State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. is suing Dorner, Luxemburg, which broke an abandoned underground gas pipe, and We Energies, which owned the line. State Farm insured the two houses that were destroyed in April 2008 when gas from the leaking pipe ignited.

We Energies responded to the lawsuit on Monday and claimed Dorner is responsible for the accident.

Earlier this month, attorneys representing Dorner and its insurer, Acuity, A Mutual Insurance Co., Sheboygan, responded to the suit with arguments that the contractor acted responsibly. Dorner’s attorneys filed a claim against We Energies in the suit. The attorneys argue that, if Dorner or Acuity or both are found guilty, the utility should be forced to pay some of the damages.
