Gov. Jim Doyle this week approved a $10.7 million project for planning, design and construction at the Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay.
The governor’s action releases nearly $2.6 million in state money to construct a new snow removal equipment building and a sand storage building. Brown County is contributing $1.9 million and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing almost $6.2 million.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the relocation of the existing equipment building and sand storage facility will allow for better use of the land near the terminal building and replace an aging, undersized building.
The project is scheduled to begin in October and should be completed by October 2010.
