The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday that it added 11 hazardous waste sites that pose risks to human health and the environment to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites.
One of the sites is in Wisconsin — the Amcast Industrial Corp. grounds in Cedarburg.
The EPA is also proposing to add 10 more sites to the list. Superfund is the federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex, uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites in the country.
To date, 1,607 sites have been listed. Of those sites, 336 have been deleted. Including the 11 sites added Wednesday, 1,271 sites are on the list.
