Groundwater legislative group begins work (1:22 p.m. 9/24/09)

A group of legislators, led by state Sen. Mark Miller, D-Monona, and state Rep. Spencer Black, D-Madison, met for the first time Thursday to begin developing a bill to protect the state’s groundwater.

According to a statement attributed to Miller, protecting the state’s groundwater is essential to the safety of drinking water and to ensure wise use of the resources for the state’s benefit.

The Groundwater Work Group is expected to forward recommendations to Miller’s and Black’s committees later this fall for introduction and action by the Wisconsin Legislature.
