Man wants to donate art museum to Stevens Point

Stevens Point (AP) — The owner of The Smith Scarabocchio Art Museum in Stevens Point wants to donate the building, museum and art within it to the city.

Eighty-three-year-old David Smith said his children have their own professions and aren’t going to take it over from him. He wants it to stay open to help foster the arts scene in the downtown area, which includes several other arts-related businesses.

U.S. DOE announces $87 million for solar power

U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that up to $87 million will be made available to support development projects for new solar-energy technologies.

The 47 projects with universities, electric power utilities, DOE’s National Laboratories and local governments were selected to support solar technologies in U.S. cities, ensure reliable connectivity to the electric grid and train a new generation of solar workers to install and maintain solar energy systems.
