Madison (AP) — Republican state Rep. John Townsend of Fond du Lac will not run for re-election next year.
Townsend was first elected to the state Assembly in 1998.
He announced his decision not to run on Monday. Democrats hold a majority of the Assembly’s seats with 52 seats. Townsend is one of 46 Republicans and there is one independent.
Townsend says 12 years in the Assembly is enough. The 71-year-old Townsend says he plans to retire and spend more time with his family and travel.
