The reconfigured Monroe County Board of Supervisors, on a 16-8 vote, rejected designs for a new justice center on Wednesday.
The vote likely signals the end of the project, which the county had worked on for two years and last month accepted construction bids. The low bids totaled roughly $26.7 million, lower than the county’s original $30 million estimate.
But the project’s price tag spurred strong reaction from county taxpayers, who last week recalled seven county supervisors in favor of new candidates that rejected spending the money in a downturned economy.
One more supervisor, County Board Chairman Dennis Hubbard, faces recall in an election next week.
