The Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence announced Tuesday that a product made by Madison-based Vendura Industries is being recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as “BioPreferred.”
Vendura’s solid surface material, made from renewable products, is used in a wide variety of applications, including kitchen counters and vanity tops, shower bases, wall panels, windowsills and a wide variety of building products.
The material also contributes points to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for green building certification.
To gain “BioPreferred” recognition, manufacturers must certify the biobased content of the product with the USDA’s BioPreferred program. Designated products must also compete with similar products both in price and quality before they are considered for national procurement.
