OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — The Pentagon has awarded another hefty defense contract to Oshkosh Corp., ordering 1,000 military vehicles in a deal worth $438 million.
The contract announced Wednesday is Oshkosh’s fifth order for a new class of mine-resistant trucks. The orders are part of a contract awarded in June whose total value is more than $3.2 billion.
The award comes one day before U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is scheduled to visit an Oshkosh manufacturing facility. Gates is expected to thank employees for their work on the trucks, which are specially designed to handle the rugged Afghanistan terrain.
Oshkosh Corp. is based in Oshkosh, Wis. It has about 12,000 employees worldwide.
