WisDOT completes preliminary I-43 bridge work

By Paul Snyder

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that preliminary bridge work on Interstate 43/Highway 64 is complete and all lanes are reopened to traffic.

The work, which began last month, was done in preparation for the reconstruction of the I-43 northbound and southbound bridges over WIS 164, scheduled for 2010.

The completed preparatory work included removing and replacing existing I-43 asphalt shoulders along the median and outside shoulder in order to strengthen the shoulders for traffic shifts during construction. In addition, deteriorated sections of the bridge deck surface were removed and replaced in order to eliminate existing potholes and to avoid further potholes during winter months.
