Wolf Paving settles state pollution charges

Wolf Paving Co. Inc. will pay $31,784 in fines and spend $136,433 on environmental projects to settle state charges that the company violated its air-pollution permit.

The violations occurred at a portable asphalt plant the company operated in the town of Center in Rock County between 2000 and 2006, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice complaint.

Tests of the plant in 2006 revealed its emissions had more particulate matter than was permitted, according to the complaint. The company also did not keep adequate records of its emissions and operations.

The company will pay its fees in installments between January 2010 and October 2011.

The company also agreed to do numerous projects to settle the charges. The projects include building a storage facility for its operations in Genesee to recycle asphalt shingles and paving some of the land around its buildings in Oconomowoc and Genesee.
