Marine Corps orders 400 heavy trucks from Oshkosh (11:06 a.m. 2/10/10)

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — The U.S. Marine Corps has ordered more than 400 heavy trucks from the defense arm of Oshkosh Corp., in a deal worth over $158 million.

Oshkosh Defense said Wednesday the order is for LVSRs, which are hulking trucks used to transport supplies across difficult terrain.

The new order extends an existing contract for the vehicles, bringing the overall order to about 1,300 trucks.

The Oshkosh-based company has received a number of military contracts within the last year or so worth a total of nearly $4 billion. One of its most popular products is a mine-resistant truck designed specially to handle the rugged terrain of Afghani battlefields.
