CENTER, Wis. (AP) — An Outagamie County man has found a way to beat the winter blues — by building a huge snow house in his backyard.
Tom Kramer, a 51-year-old who lives in Center, has been building snow houses since he was 7 years old. But this year he’s made his largest one yet, a sprawling edifice that’s 58-feet long, 26-feet wide and 11 feet tall.
The Post-Crescent in Appleton reports it’s big enough to stand up in, and Kramer even set up a table and chairs inside for visitors who feel like hanging out.
Kramer said it took five to six weeks to build up the snow pile in his rural yard, and a week to hollow out more than 100 tons of snow — all using only a shovel and wheelbarrow.
