Worker falls 60 feet from Madison project

By Paul Snyder

A 25-year-old construction worker fell 60 feet from a building on the site of The Park & Regent mixed-use development in Madison on Wednesday.

The man was breathing and responding to questions when he arrived at UW Hospital, said Eric Dahl, public information officer for the Madison Fire Department. He said the department received a call about the man’s fall at 9:15 a.m., and paramedics arrived at the site at 9:19.

Neither the Madison Fire Department nor the Madison Police Department would release the worker’s name. Dahl said he did not know the company for which the man works.

Madison-based Stevens Construction Corp. is building the five-story apartment and retail building at the corner of Park and Regent streets. Stevens representatives did not return calls before deadline.

Dahl said the worker was tethered to the building’s frame. Dahl said he does not know if or how the tether failed.

Chad Greenwood, assistant area director for the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Madison office, said OSHA is investigating the accident.
