“He had his own style,” said James Meyer, president of the Hartland-based general contractor and Thomas Lorenz’s stepson. “Tom had his own way of doing things, which proved to me that he thought outside of the box. He solved problems. Other contractors would come to him.”

Lorenz, 71, was active in the construction industry as a trustee on union health and pension funds, as a management representative on the carpenters state apprenticeship committee and as past president of the Allied Construction Employers Association of Southeast Wisconsin.

“He was a strong individual when it came to working with the industry and promoting the industry during his tenured career,” said John Topp, ACEA chief executive. “He will be missed.”

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Harder Funeral Home, 18700 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, W3673 Highway O, Watertown. The funeral will follow visitation Saturday at the church.

Lorenz, who lived in Ashippun, was administrator of the company until he died. Even after losing two legs to complications from diabetes, he remained active in the company, Meyer said.

“He’s going to be absolutely missed,” Meyer said, “What could you say? The guy left a legacy, a footprint, all over southeast Wisconsin.”

  1. Tom was a good guy, I always enjoyed working with him.

  2. I’m shocked and saddened to hear of your death. Sad that I could not acknowledge this to your family during your time of sadness
. Honest, forthright and always a smile.
    Godspeed to you. Marc Brummel,
