Benedict retiring from Wis. state Assembly

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin state Rep. Chuck Benedict of Beloit will not be seeking re-election.

The Democrat is currently in his third term in the state Assembly.

The 63-year-old Benedict was first elected in 2005. He said serving in the Assembly has humbled and inspired him.

Benedict is the third Democrat and 10th Assembly member overall to announce they will not be seeking another term. Two Republicans and one Democrat in the state Senate are also not running for re-election.

Democrats hold a 52-46 majority in the Assembly and an 18-15 majority in the Senate.
