Lawrence University’s Warch Campus Center was named the 2009 Best in Show winner at The Daily Reporter and Wisconsin Builder magazine’s 11th annual Top Projects awards event Wednesday night at Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee.
A total of 31 projects completed in Wisconsin in 2009 were named Top Projects at the event, which recognizes projects of all shapes and sizes. Winners included the Aurora Medical Center in Summit, Appleton’s College Avenue Bridge and the Beloit Public Library.
Lawrence University’s $32 million Warch Campus Center was chosen as the Best in Show by a panel of independent judges from different areas of the industry. Judging this year’s projects were: Jeffrey Beiriger, executive director of the American Subcontractors Association of Wisconsin; Ken Kraemer, executive director of Building Advantage; James Otto, president of the American Institute of Architects of Wisconsin; Robert Rayburn, executive vice president of The Milwaukee Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association; and Stephen Stone, president of Associated Builders & Contractors of Wisconsin.
Judges were asked to consider the challenges the project overcame before and during construction, the benefit the project had on the community and any advancement it provided to the state construction industry.
The panel praised project team members for constructing a beautiful building on a very challenging site. The 107,000-square-foot building was built into a bluff over the Fox River in Appleton.
More than 350 people attended Wednesday’s award event, which also recognized the nearly 100 other projects submitted.
