It’s steamy out there

A cloud of steam wraps around Interstate 794 near 2nd Street in Milwaukee on Friday. Brian Manthey, spokesman for We Energies, Milwaukee, said the cloud resulted from cold water from Thursday night’s heavy rains hitting the hot pipes that make up the utility’s underground steam system. The system provides heat and hot water to about 400 downtown customers, he said. The area immediately surrounding the steam venting from manholes was closed off for a bit on Friday for safety.
