The office of Gov. Jim Doyle clarified Thursday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has not yet ruled on whether to offer individual assistance to disaster victims in Milwaukee and Grant counties.
FEMA announced Wednesday morning that money would be allocated to both county governments to reimburse clean-up efforts after a series of late-July storms ravaged the area. Initial reports indicated that individual assistance would not be provided, but both the governor and Milwaukee Alderman Ashanti Hamilton announced that no such decision has been made.
Hamilton, who with 1st District County Supervisor Theodore Lipscomb hosted a town-hall forum addressing residents’ complaints on Wednesday, said the matter was out of the hands of city and county officials.
No announcement was made on when a decision from FEMA is expected.
