Menomonee Valley remake a finalist in national competition

Milwaukee is a finalist in a national competition for its work in converting the Menomonee Valley from brownfield to an industrial center and community park.

The National League of Cities will announce the winners for its 2010 Municipal Excellence awards at its Congress of Cities and Exposition in Denver, Colo., from Nov. 30-Dec. 4.

The revitalization and redevelopment of the 120-acre brownfield, considered one of the most polluted sites in the state, took seven years to complete. It added $1 million to the city’s tax base and created 1,200 jobs, according to city officials.
