Oconomowoc officials say they are stunned at the state’s decision to remove the city from consideration for a station on the Milwaukee-to-Madison high speed train line.
Bob Duffy, the city’s economic development director said the Common Council was scheduled to discuss the proposal in a closed door meeting Tuesday night but instead were presented with the state’s decision. Duffy denied the mayor or other city officials asked to be removed from consideration.
Initially, Oconomowoc expressed interest in a rail station. But that apparently changed during an Aug. 2 community workshop, according to a letter sent by Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi to Mayor James Daley.
“Due to the lack of interest by the city, we are discontinuing further discussions on a proposed station in Oconomowoc,” according to the letter.
