Wausau to build new veterans center

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs will build a new veterans center in Wausau, according to the agency.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports it’s part of an expansion of services statewide that will also include additional counselors at the Madison, Green Bay and Milwaukee centers.

Democratic Sens. Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold and Reps. Gwen Moore of Milwaukee and Dave Obey of Wausau said they pushed for the changes.

A Feingold spokesman said the new Wausau office is expected to open later in fiscal year 2011.

The vet centers in Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay are currently the only centers in the state. They’ll get an additional family counselor.

Another new center is expected to open later this year in La Crosse County.
