By spring of 2012, a new YMCA facility should be completed for residents and members near and in the village of Mukwonago.
Plans were announced by Cheryl Berg, president of the Mukwonago YMCA, at a press conference Sept. 25.
The new facility will be privately owned, but associated with the YMCA in Waukesha. It will be constructed on an 8-acre parcel of land across from the Walmart store on East Wolf Run. The site was donated by the D.N. Greenwald family of Mukwonago, long-term land owners and developers.
Designed by the architectural firm of Kahler Slater of Milwaukee, the building will have room for a gymnasium, community rooms, a senior center and teen center, an indoor walking/jogging track, group cycling studio, a kids care room, a lap lane pool, a recreational pool, locker rooms and offices. The facility will also offer health and wellness programs.
Although final plans need to be drawn, construction could begin in early 2011. Peter Schwabe Inc., Big Bend, is the general contractor.
Fundraising efforts are under way, with $8.2 million in pledges so far. Construction totals will be near $12.7 million.
Donations may be sent to Mukwonago YMCA, P. O. Box 364, Mukwonago, WI 53149.
