MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin voters have sent U.S. Rep. Tom Petri back to Washington for the fourth straight decade.

The moderate Republican easily won re-election representing the 6th Congressional District in eastern Wisconsin. He has been in the House since 1979.

The 70-year-old Petri is expected to be influential on spending issues related to transportation, infrastructure, education and labor should Republicans win control of the House on Tuesday.

With 7 percent of precincts reporting as of 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Petri had 73 percent of the vote compared to 27 percent for Kallas.
