Congrats on winning — now fix this mess

By Tom Fetters

Dear freshman U.S. senator-/U.S. representative-/state officeholder-elect:

Whether you coasted to victory or eked out a win by just a few votes, you have a mandate: Fix this mess.

We’re frustrated, we’re angry and we’re afraid. We’ve lost our jobs, our homes and our retirement nest eggs — or we think we might before long — and many of us are having a tough time trying to feed our families. And we don’t even want to think about paying for our kids to go to college.

You’ve been elected pretty much for one reason — because your predecessor failed. You have one term to fix this mess. If you fail, you’ll likely be shown the door as well.

We need jobs. We need income to put food on the table, pay the bills and start rebuilding our retirement savings. We need confidence. We need to see improvement so we can believe that better days are ahead for our families and ourselves.

Now get ready to go to work.

  1. I was at the Walker victory party Tuesday night. What a great group of people; happy, confident, well manored, not angry, (black, white, latino, purple, pink, all colors of skin, women, lesbians, gay men). Let me tell you, skin color does not matter over here like it does on the left. I talked with some operating engineers at the bar that felt uncomfortable being there, but they support Scott Walker nonetheless. Hopefully they were not just lining up at the “trough” because the good guys won this time. When will most union people learn that the left destroys opportunity in the state and country? Stop looking at politicians to give you things. These operating engineers want to build roads and know that their paycheck depends on building roads and not trains that nobody will use. At least they were there and hopefully their union bosses will pull their head out of the sand and understand that conservatism brings everybody’s boat up. Liberalism (democrat thinking and socialism) pulls everybody down to the same level. How negative is that?

  2. Sorry to see Mr. Feingold, the best US senator of all, get defeated by Independents who should have favored him but high tailed to whom????
Wisconsin, you lost a great man.
I hope he runs for the Presidency in 2012 as a terrific, thinking, caring Democrat.
Preferably, though, I’d wish he’d move to NY or MA.
We’d welcome him with open arms.
