UW-Madison lets beam splitter bids

By Jeff Moore

Guess what needs a polarizing beam splitter array?

The Robert Stobie Spectrography in the South African Large Telescope, that’s what.

UW-Madison’s Department of Space Science and Engineering Center is soliciting bids for such a polarizing beam splitter array. Bids are due at 2 p.m. Dec. 6.

The polarizing beam splitter should be a 3-by-3 mosaic of nine identical air-spaced calcite Wollaston prisms.
